Problem

As key sponsors of Super Rugby, Placemakers needed to boost engagement with their signed-up fans. Traditional sponsorship wasn't enough – they needed something that would get fans coming back.

Solution

Enter Punt for Prizes – a custom-built game that turned rugby knowledge into rewards. We created a Progressive Web App using React.js, powered by Contentful for dynamic content management. The game ran on Google Cloud Platform using serverless architecture for maximum scalability. Smart use of authentication tokens made the experience seamless for users while giving Placemakers valuable engagement data.

Results

The game was a game-changer for fan engagement. It reactivated over 50,000 signed-up fans, with engagement metrics shooting through the roof. The clever use of authentication tokens helped drive daily active users to nearly 100% of their database – proving that with the right digital experience, sports sponsorship can do more than just build brand awareness.
